The Immaculate Conception of Mary

The doctrine of the immaculate conception of Mary concerns that Mary from the moment when she was conceived in the womb, that she was kept free of original sin. In other words, this means that Mary when she was born through her mother’s womb, from that time onwards she was born without sin.  In 1439 the Council of Basel stated that the belief was in accordance with Catholic faith, and in 1709 Pope Clement XI made the feast of the Immaculate Conception a holy day of obligation. In 1854 Pius IX issued a papal bull making it official church dogma.

This dogma was opposed by early exponents like St. Justin Martyr and St. Irenaeus; St. Bonaventure and St. Thomas Aquinas.

In fact, Bible never teaches any such thing about immaculate conception of Mary. Bible clearly states the opposite of this belief. Romans 3:10-12 says that there is no one who is righteous, not even one. God's word declares that all of humanity is sinful including Mary. In order for savior to be born, there needs to be woman, who can be used as a tool for Jesus to be born. Even Mary requires salvation offered through Jesus Christ. In Mark 3:20-21, shows that Mary never understood what Jesus was doing or the work he was involved. Rather she opposed Jesus in the beginning. We can see that later during the event of Cross Mary was asked to be taken care by Jesus disciple John (John 19:26-27). And it is only after Jesus ascension in Acts 1:14 we can find that, even Mary joined the mission of Jesus along with the disciples of Jesus. It is also very clear in John 7:5 that even Jesus own brothers did not believe in him.

And the only person who ever walked this earth without sin was the Lord Jesus Christ. According to Hebrews 4:15 states that Jesus was without sin and 2 Corinthians 5:21, show us that Jesus had no sin. Jesus was perfect. Mary, Jesus' earthly mother, was a sinner just like us. Mary was a sinner just like every other worst sinner alive on this earth. We are all horrible sinners. We tend to think that we are not so bad because we compare ourselves to worse sinners. However, the only accurate measuring stick is the Word of God and the Lord Jesus Christ. If we compare ourselves to God's Word, then we will see just how filthy and wicked we really are in God's eyes. Isaiah 64:6, shows us that all our righteous acts are like filthy rags. The Bible teaches that even our good works are "filthy rags" in the sight of God. Why is this so? because God cannot be impressed with our self-righteousness. The whole reason why Jesus came to earth to atone for our sins is because we cannot save ourselves. How can a sinner make himself clean? How can a trapped man free himself? Only through Jesus Christ can anyone be saved and go to heaven.
