Holy Spirit Gives Rest

Summary of the Features Liberal Protestantism

Features of Liberal Protestantism:
1) Liberal Protestantism committed to the restatement of Christian faith in forms which are acceptable within contemporary culture.
2) Due to Darwin's theory of evolution traditional Christian theology seemed to be increasingly untenable, hence liberalism was committed to bridging the gap between Christian faith and modern knowledge.
3) A number of central doctrines like, doctrine of sin and doctrines relating to the person of Jesus Christ was reinterpreted in a manner more conducive to the spirit of the age.
4) The idea behind this new movement was in response to the theological program set out by F.D.E. Schleiermacher, especially in relation to his emphasis upon human "feeling" and the need to relate Christian faith to the human situation.
5) Liberalism has continued to see itself as a mediator between two unacceptable alternatives, that is the mere restatement of traditional Christian faith and the total rejection of Christianity at times.
