Assurance of the Truth of God’s Promises

The assurance of the truth of God's promises is highly related to resurrection. First and foremost, according to 2 Corinthians 1:20, all the promises that God has made is, no matter how many, they are all yes in Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:14 states that if Christ has not been raised from the dead then our preaching is useless and so is our faith. Further down in verse 19, in the same chapter, it says if Christ only died for us only for this earthly life then we men must be pitied the most, that is those who believe in Jesus.

Indeed, Christ's resurrection is the proof that he being the perfect mediator who is interceding for us on our behalf in front of the father (Romans 8:34, Hebrews 7:25). For whatever we ask in the name of Jesus in accordance to the truth will be given to us and all the promises fulfilled (John 14:13).

Most important of them all is the eternal life as in 1 John 5:11-13 and whoever hears the words of Jesus and believes in him will not come into judgment (John 5:24). God never undertakes to do something He cannot carry out. When He makes a promise, He will always carry it through. He has never made a promise to us that He will ever have to explain away afterwards.

He not only confirms, but fulfills, the promises which God has made. In Acts 13:32-33 Paul said, “And we declare to you glad tidings—that promise which was made to the fathers. God has fulfilled this for us their children, in that He has raised up Jesus....” (also in Romans 1:2-4). Indeed, many of the promises of God have been fulfilled by the coming of Jesus Christ. God promised He would send a Messiah, a Savior, and He did. He promised Abraham a seed in whom all the nations of the world would be blessed, and He did. Many nations have already been blessed by the coming of Christ. He promised David a seed who would rule and reign on his throne forever. He already rules at the right hand of God, and He will rule on earth on the throne of David. He is the confirmation and seal of God’s promises.

The seal is also a mark of ownership. The same Holy Spirit who regenerated us, who baptized us into the Body of Christ, who has anointed us for service and illumination, dwells within us as the seal that we belong to God. Even so, the Holy Spirit puts a seal on us to show that we belong to God. We are one of God’s sheep and we are never going to be lost. We may wander away, but He will come and find us, because we belong to God. And since we belong to God, we should have even more assurance that God will keep every promise to you. In fact, in Ephesians 4:30 Paul makes a connection between the sealing of the Holy Spirit and the completing of our redemption.
