Holy Spirit Gives Rest

Summary of the Features Evangelicalism

Features of evangelicalism:
1) The term evangelical in sixteenth century referred to Catholic writers wishing to revert to more biblical beliefs and practices than those associated with the late medieval church.
2) The term evangelical is presently used to widely refer to a trans-denominational trend in theology and spirituality, which lays particular emphasis upon the place of scripture in Christian life.
3) Evangelicalism is centered on cluster of four assumptions, that is: the authority and sufficiency of Scripture, the uniqueness of redemption through the death of Christ upon the cross, the need for personal conversion and the necessity, propriety and urgency of evangelism.
4) One of evangelicalism's most significant areas of theological activity is the field of apologetics.
5) Historically, evangelicalism has never been committed to any particular theory of the church, regarding the New Testament as being open to a number of interpretations in this respect and treating denominational distinctive’s as of secondary importance to the gospel itself.
